Social Environment

Well, you said "no matter how crazy," so here goes:

The character is a "Hellhunter." The idea has a name, so it likely has a community. Good community status could mean getting better leads, getting access to stuff, etc. Maybe even being able to hire in or request assistance in the form of people who at least somewhat know about this stuff. Turning up evidence, providing it, etc., means getting better access.

The character is technically a criminal. Bringing in weapons and equipment that is likely of questionable legality, discharging firearms in a residential neighborhood in a situation where the police won't believe there really was something there, etc. Actions might cause legal concerns, including getting arrested. Note that providing evidence to gain better "cred" with the community (above) also means seeding evidence of potentially criminal activities. Getting into gunfights, etc., has a chance of causing police involvement (and they'll likely arrest you if you're waving around a submachine gun). The cops might also be killed by the monster, or worse possessed (forcing you to kill them). While you're collecting evidence, be sure you leave none of your own.

Because let's face it. There's only two ways these stories end - in prison, or in a gutter.
"If the bureaucracy is not checked, it will tend to build, in the name of peace, a defense against every conceivable contingency - so much 'security' that 'the secured' are without resources - helpless and hopeless."

This is awesome, police involvement gives me a supernatural vibe.
It really helps with the game "grounded" feel which was mentioned so much.
Also digging the "assistance" part, imagine there are "scouts", who for a certain amount of money will provide a map/intel.

On the opposite side, maybe the character gets special licenses/gigs from the police?
Are Hellhunters a special unit? or is it a tradesman job that requires a permit ? that might mean you need to buy special permits for say using a "submachinegun" as was mentioned above, this is not a burden, it's actually cool as hell.

Even if this is all just appears as text, it will help pave way for greater things to come once you guys get some sales.
And trust me you will, Hellhunter is the coolest thing I've seen in years.
